A dubious or very low estimation for battery Pt:

A battery apparatus with 49 elements (1.5" x 0.5" = 0.75 sq. in.) has 36.75 sq. in. of refined sheet Pt, for a total value of $10., each strip costs ~$ 0.50, or 3.67 sq. in per $1.; $ 0.136 per inch square (x2, surface area.)

If the weight of a 3.5" x 0.75" (=2.8175 sq. in.) Platinum strip be estimated @ 0.0833 Troy Ounce (40 grains), the larger strips should weigh 0.1087 Troy Ounce or 52 grains, $0.01 per grain or $4.80 per Troy Ounce.

1871/2: 1 Troy Oz. Platinum (sheet) ~ $ 4.80 (Gold Rate)
