UK, 1867: Scrap Price

1867: 1 Troy Ounce Platinum (Semi-Mfg, Retail) = £ 1.60 (USD$ 11.00)
1866/7: 1 Troy Oz. Platinum (Scrap, Bid) = £ 1.00 (USD$ 6.88)

PLATINA WIRE—I pay 32s. per ounce for plate or wire, but only get 20s. allowed for cuttings, or short lengths of wire. The process of remelting and working platina into larger pieces, for sale, is very costly and troublesome, and causes the great difference between the two prices—THOS. FLETCHER.

In 1866/7, Johnson & Matthey were still importing Platinum from the St. Petersburg Mint, at a rate of £ 13.20 per Pound Troy, £ 35.4/kg ; £ 16./lbs. avd.

In London 1865, Platinum scrap sold at 25% discount to the market or common price.

It would be erroneous to presume the -24% difference in the Grove's Battery unit price was entirely due to a Platinum Price Drop - too many factors might otherwise account for Griffin's higher retail price.

Where 1 Ingot (£ 1,100) would compose 1 5-Ton Boiler (£ 1,640) the mfg cost was £ 540.
The ingot appears to have been 931 Ozt. (28.957 Kgs.)
