USA, 1875: Comparative Metal Prices

 



In the most severe deflationary period in US history, wholesale prices fell -53% from 1865 - 1880 (Warren & Pearson, 1932.)  

From 1865-1875, the price of Platinum appears to have fallen ~25%, but the USA was also importing more crude platina. Retail Platinum prices fell - 33%.
1865: 1 Troy Ounce Platinum (manufactured, retail)  = USD$ 12. - 15.00 
1865: 1 Troy Ounce Platinum (refined, wholesale)  ~ USD$  10.40 

1875: 1 Troy Ounce Platinum (refined, whols.)= USD$ 7.90 - 8.40
1875: 1 Troy Ounce Palladium (refined)= USD$44.79

Adjusting for Real Inflation since 1875 (5,332%) we can extrapolate a long term price for wholesale refined Platinum @ $  429.  (in 2009 USD$)  The respective platinum price is inflation-projected to $ 858. - 977. per Troy Ounce in 2009 Dollars.
