France, 1805: Cost of Working Platina

Prof. Necker De Saussure of Geneva forged Platinum plates weighing 29.509 ozt, and
Necker's process reportedly reduced the costs for refining Platinum to

1805: 1 Troy Ounce platina (Cartagena: ore, bulk) =  Fr. 2.03
1804/5: 1 Troy Oz. platina (UK ore; whols.) ~ Fr. 6.185 (£ 0.2468
1805: 1 Troy Oz. Pt (UK Ore, 75% @ Intrinsic) ~ Fr. 8.25

1805: 1 Troy Oz. platina (Paris Ore, Mkt) = Fr 9.15
1805: 1 Troy Oz. Pt (Paris Ore, 70% @ Intrinsic) ~ Fr. 13.07
1805: 1 Troy Oz. Pt (French Refiner Cost, Sponge) = Fr. 24.40
1805: 1 Troy Oz. Platinum (Est. Mkt) = Fr. 37.47
1805: 1 Troy Oz. Platinum (French Mfg, Base Price) = Fr. 30.50
1805: 1 Troy Oz. Platinum (Est. Mfg) = Fr. 43.57

1805: 1 Troy Oz. platina (Assumed: Spanish Ore) = Fr 6.10
1805: 1 Troy Oz. Pt (Paris Ore, 70% @ Intrinsic) ~ Fr. 8.71
1805: 1 Troy Oz. Pt (French Refiner Cost, Sponge) = Fr. 24.40
1805: 1 Troy Oz. Platinum (Est. Mkt) = Fr. 33.11
1805: 1 Troy Oz. Platinum (French Mfg, Base Price) = Fr. 30.50
1805: 1 Troy Oz. Platinum (Est. Mfg) = Fr. 39.21

After Necker-Saussure's method for purified Platinum, Hr. Saverger made a watch chain that is extremely easy and not in the least soldered. The crude platina is dissolved in aqua regia, precipitated by ammonium chloride, after reduced in sand crucibles by the aid of a lively fire to a greyish powder, and then in a cylindrical crucible strongly ignited red, now it will compresses into iron cylindrical shapes, and then comes into the forge, where hard disks makes, about 917 824 Gran Millieme (30 Once) of it.  The Once costs in sponge or sheets Fr 24. at most Fr. 30. - Hr. Necker also has crucibles, spatulas, tubes, cylindrical vessels tie, very thin and are welded together by simply hammering, manufactured, and even plated-copper harnesses it, and the holes in movements wearing it.

The manufacturer who works platinum, according to the method of M. Necker, can produce sheet for Fr. 24 - 30 Grams (an Oncein sheets, bars, laminated or drawn to any single form. The price varies according to difficulty and to wastage cause be some required forms, but it should not exceed Fr. 30 for 30 Grammes ... Some crucibles capsules, parts of the tubes, and very cylindrical vessels - thin, were welded by simple contact and hammering.

Assuming the Paris Commercial Price of platina (1805) reduced to:
1 Spanish Libra @ Fr 9./once = Fr. 141. (S$ 25.64)
1 Pound avd. @ Fr 9./once = Fr. 139. (£ 5.23 - 5.54)  1 Kilogram @ Fr 9./once = Fr 306.5 (£ 11.52 - 12.22 ; S$ 55.73)

Assuming the Paris Commercial Price of Platinum (1805) Fr. 33.11 - 39.21/Ozt, 1 Kilogram Platinum cost Fr. 1,065. (Ingot: £ 40.02 - 42.45; $168.82 -175.93) and Fr. 1,261 (Mfg.: £ 47.40 - 50.27; $199.92 - 208.34)

The high Paris price for Platinum manufactures was noted by contemporaries.
