Germany, 1883

10/83: 1 Troy Oz. Platinum (UK: Mfg, Bulk) ~ℳ 31.80 (£ 1.5381)
1883: 1 Troy Oz. Platinum (UK: Semi-Mfg, Ret.) ~ ℳ  37.17 (USD$ 9.29)

Avg. 1883: 1 Troy Oz. Platinum (Germany: Mfg, Bulk) = ℳ 29.455 ($ 7.)
Avg. 1883: 1 Troy Oz. Platinum (Germ.: Mfg, Ret.) = ℳ 31.08 ($ 7.38)

On 10/28/83, a large crucible weighing 10.48 Ozt (containing ~235 cc.?) was billed at ℳ 1,058.28/kg

Concerning the cost of platinumware, on 28th October 1883, Abbe wrote to Schott : “found here on my desk a platinum crucible from Heraeus (326 Grams billed at 345 Mark). Apparently quite close to the specification, only it looks thicker (scrap platinum at 800 Mark per kilo taken back). Was told from London by 26th (as mailed): crucible 716 Grams, stirrer 1,098 Grams = 1,814 Grams comes to Fr. 2,267.5 {£ 89.70 or £ 1.538/Ozt; Fr. 38.8794/Ozt = $ 7.504}...”

Priced in London in 'French money' (coin) the assumed value in Gold rather than merchant bill or credit. Where a US Double Eagle was then worth
£ 4.10, a Fr. 20 was worth £ 0.7912.

Where weight is by Metric Gram, 1 Kilogram German Platinumware cost 1,058.30 (~£ 51.81; USD$ 251.75) whereas UK Platinumware cost Fr 1,250./kg (ℳ 1,000.; ~£ 49.50) although it's likely that shipping, insurance and any customs duty would have raised that expense. Unmanufactured Platinum in large bulk then cost ℳ 900./kg.  Platinumware was 28.25% more expensive than it had been in 1865.

1865: 1 Troy Oz. Platinum (Germ. Prod.: Crucible, Ret. Discount) = 25.665
1865: 1 Troy Oz. Platinum (Germ. Scrap, Prod. BID) = 14.

1869: 1 Troy Oz. Platinum (Germ. Mfg: Crucible, Ret.) =  ℳ  30.78

10/83: 1 Troy Oz. Platinum (Germ.: Mfg, Whol.) = 31.1035 (USD$ 7.39)
10/83: 1 Troy Oz. Platinum (Germ.: Semi-Mfg, Whol.) = 29.55 (USD$ 7.02)

10/83: 1 Troy Oz. Platinum (UK: Mfg, Bulk) =ℳ 31.1035 ("Fr. 38.88" / £ 1.5381)
(18.5 d./dwt.?) ................................ (USD$ 7.50)
