Austria, 1823

The price seems exceedingly low (dated?), unless it's a first cost in Paris and London, not true Vienna wholesale or true local market. Otherwise, there was no Platinum shortage in Vienna - well-supplied, from unknown source.

c. April 1823: 1 Troy Oz. Platinum (Paris: Prod. Mfg.) = Fr 25.41 (Fl. C.M. 7.877)

Where the Wiener Loth was 17.54025 g,
 c.1823?: 1 Troy Ounce platina (Ore 75%, Whols.) = Fl. C.M. 6.2064 ( $2.98)
 c.1823?: 1 Ozt. Pt (Ore @.999, Whols.) = Fl. C.M. 8.2752 ($ 3.97)
 c.1823?: 1 Ozt. platina (Refined Sponge, Whols.) = Fl. C.M. 11.5262 ($ 5.53)
 c.1823?: 1 Ozt. Platinum (Wire &Sheet, Whols.) = Fl. C.M. 12.4128 ($ 5.96)

Austrian source, c. mid-1824: Bréant's effort to refine 1,000 kg. of platina for the Spanish Crown was reported July 1823. There is likewise no mention of the massive Russian platina discovery, credibly reported by 1824. This would date this ms. to late 1823/4, so likely including Paris Price data from mid-1823.

c.1819?: 1 Troy Oz. Platinum (Paris: refined ingot) = Fr 18.30
.......... USD$ 3.40

c. Early-1823: 1 Troy Oz. Platinum (Parsi: refined ingot) = Fr 25.40
.......... USD$ 5.50

The technical processing of Platinum in mass was achieved by the excellent Wollaston, and then engaged the Parisian goldsmiths Janety, and in more recent times Breant. The latter is processing on behalf of the Spanish government a stockpile of 2,000 Pfund crude platina, which had puzzled the year collected in 1748. So, purified in a solid
hammered ingot, an Once of Platinum costs in Paris from Fr. 18 to Fr. 25 ; equivalently, sold by the Wiener Loth from Fl. C.M. 4 - 4.583 (Florins Convention Munze.)

The Wiener Loth was 17.54385965 Grams; the Paris Once was 30.6215356 Grammes, so 1.745427529 Wiener Loth per Once.

The Paper Exchange was Fl. 1 = Fr. 2.6012 in 1819 and Fl. 1 = Fr. 2.4925 in 1823, so:

c.1819?: 1 Paris Once Platinum (Paris: ingot) ~ Fl. C. 7.035
c. Early-1823: 1 Paris Once Platinum (Paris: ingot) ~ Fl. C. 9.765

Where the 1824 Exchange was Fl. C.M. 1 = Fr. 2.64; Fr. 1. = Fl. C.M. 0.3794, the equivalent Once price was:

c.1819?: 1 Paris Once Platinum (ingot) ~ Fl. C.M. 6.9431
c. Early-1823: 1 Paris Once Platinum (ingot) ~ Fl. C.M. 9.6374
c.1819?: 1 Troy Oz. Platinum (ingot) ~ Fl. C.M. 7.0523
c. Early-1823: 1 Troy Oz. Platinum (ingot) ~ Fl. C.M. 9.7890

Berlin: 1 Mark Cöllnische = 8 Unzen = 16 Loth, ∴

1 Loth = 0.4697 Ozt.; 14.6106 g.

1 Apotheker Unze = 1.12554726 Ozt.; 35.0084326 Grammes

1 English Troy Ounce = 0.888456699 Apotheker Unze

Commerce-Weight. The Wiener Zentner contains 5 Stein to 20 Pfunde, or 100 Pfunde. The {Wiener} Pfund, which is divided in half and quarter-Pfunde, contains 32 Lothe, each about 4 Quentchen or Quinteln. The Bohemian Zentner contains 120 Pfunde, which likewise each has 32 Lothe, the Loth is divided to 4 Quentchen; 100 Wiener Pfunde are equal to 108.875 Bohemian Pfunde. The {Commercial} Wiener Pfund contains 11,655 Holland Assen, the Bohemian 10,697.

The Apothecary Pfund has 12 Unzen at 8 Drachme each; the Drachme 3 Skrupeln, the Skrupel about 20 Gran. 12 Unzen contains 8,741 Holland Assen. Thus the Apothecary Pfund is exactly 75% the Commercial-Weight Wiener Pfund, an Unze likewise 2 Lothe and the Drachma 1 Quentchen.

The Viennese Gold- and Silverweight is the Mark to 16 Lothe, each 4 Quentchen.

The Mark contains 80.4 imperial ducats and weighs 5,341 Holland Assen; 5 Wiener Mark equal 6 Kölnischen Marks.
